Who are Your Top 5 People?

If you hang out with chickens, you are going to cluck, if you hang out with eagles you are going to soar.

In order to explain the power of 5, I first believe I need to explain the power of energy.

The brain and your energy.

Energy is not only something you can use to turn a light bulb on in the house... it actually turns light bulbs on in your brain.

Keeping your brain energized is highly recommended as your brain uses 20% more energy than any other organ in your body.

Until now, most scientists believed that it used the majority of that energy to fuel electrical impulses that neurons employ to communicate with one another.

Turns out, though, that is only part of the story. (Stay with me, might get nerdy.) A new study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA indicates that two thirds of the brain's energy budget is used to help neurons or nerve cells "fire'' or send signals.

Lastly, however, is used for what study co-author Wei Chen, a radiologist at the University of Minnesota Medical School, refers to as "housekeeping," or cell-health maintenance.

I know, I went on a brain science rant but it is relevant to the rest of the story.

After discovering the energy and the brain, no fricken wonder I get major brain fog at times in the afternoon.

Does this ever happen to you?

Hmmmm ... to keep the brain healthy in Layamon terms, do things which make you FEEL energized.

Which brings me to the top 5 people in your life.

Energy is shared among people.

Don't believe me?

Then ask yourself this question...

Have you ever walked into a room and everyone was laughing?

You have no idea in the world what the hell they are laughing at but the energy in the room grabs hold of you and BOOM, you start to smile, chuckle, and automatically laugh.

That is the power of others energy.

You can also discover the opposite experience with people who are negative.

When you leave the presence of these individuals you feel drained, sleepy and wondering what the hell just happened.

Who do you attract?

Everyone in this world attracts through their energy.

Just like my examples above, if you are smiling, you can make others smile. If you are laughing you can make others laugh.

Just the same if you are a miserable sod, you are going to gain some energy suckers right along with you.

Understanding your energy levels can be a turning point to becoming happy, resisting conflict, creating a group of people with similar core values.

Be aware of how you are feeling, if you are low on energy, this is where you can move your body, change your thoughts, or change your people.

You are the average of your top 5 people.

Have you heard this saying before?

If you are a parent, you have said this to your children, at least in a similar way or maybe you have actually heard this said to you, from your parents.

"No, you can not go over to Jimmy's, he is a trouble maker."

"I notice a change in you after you are at your friends house, so I think its best to stay home today."

Layamon Terms again... you are who you hang around with.

Gary (my other half) and I went to the annual REIN Canada ACRE Conference last weekend.

Anyone wondering what REIN is? Real Estate Investment Network.

You can guess that we are real estate investors, which means when we surround ourselves with people similar interests, it increases our brain energy, our body energy and gets both Gary and I excited about investing in more properties.

Moving us onward and upward as we speak to the men and women who are investing at a larger scale.

Just like in the workplace, speaking to others who you admire increases your energy levels to improve yourself.

I am a believer in always improving, always learning, always growing and definitely always helping others do the same.

How to check if your top 5 are helping you or hindering you.

1. How do you feel?

Check your intuition. Listen to yourself. Listen to them. Check your intuition agin.

You know yourself better than anyone else. Don't lie to yourself or make excuses for others behaviors.

2. What's your payoff?

If you don't know why you need someone in your life, ask yourself the question of what is my payoff.

There is always a payoff for every action you take.

3. If you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room.

Surround yourself with people you can learn from. It is important as a human you evolve or your lower your energy.

3. Have interest in others who you would like to become.

Seek out intelligent people with similar interest. Go to seminars and workshops in your desired field and learn more. You will find your people.

Go and spread your wings.

Find your team of energy and create the future you want.

By creating your energy team, your brain fog, your "housekeeping" will be take care of.

Which means, you can soar with the eagles.
